100 Books In A Year Reading Challenge 2012!

This awesome challenge is hosted by the amazing Book Chick City, one of the biggest bestest book blogs I've visited!  :D

Now, I completed this challenge last year with a few books to spare (*happy dance*), so I thought I'd try it again!  I love the challenge: it was so fun!

2011 Challenges

I kind of went a little OTT on challenges this year.  I stick by my new, excited blogger defense.  This year, as I am more mature (ish), I am only taking part in 3.  In theory.  :D


I must admit, I was rather disappointed by how I did.  But I will do better this year!  I promise myself.  :D

But here's how I did on my challenges this year:

100 Books in a Year Reading Challenge 2011

 

My challenge was to read 100 books.  And... 104 books read in 2011!  Yay!  :D 

Challenge: completed.

 

British Book Challenge

This one challenged me to read 50 British books over 2011.  I really suprised myself with just how few British books I actually read!  I only read 37 out of the target 50. 

Challenge: Uncompleted.
But wait!  I just realized that the normal target was 12 British Books...  Which means:
Challenge is in fact: Completed!

A-Z Reading Challenge

I had to read a book for every letter of the alphabet for this challegne.  Do you know how hard it is to find Qs, Us and Zs?  I managed to get my hands on a U and a Z, but didn't have time to read them!  I have yet to find a Q.  Therefore, I read 23 out of 26.

Horror and Urban Fantasy Reading Challenge 2011!

This challenge involved me reading 20 Horror and Urban Fantasy books.  I really seem to love Urban Fantasy: I read around 70 books!

Challenge: Most definately Completed!



The Vampire Challenge 2011

This one also wanted me to read 20 books - only these ones were specifically vamp-filled.  I suprised myself by only reading 12.  I really thought I'd read more!  :D

Challenge: Uncompleted.

 

2011 E-Book Challenge

 

I may have aimed a little too high with this one.  Heh, I guess I wasn't anticipating the number of hardcopy books I of course had to buy over the year.  But even so.  I did orignally say I'd do the Obsessed level: 20 e-Books.  And I read 17.  Saying I only wanted to read 20 does make me feel better!

Off The Shelf Challenge

I was trying to read 75 books for this one.  My problem?  I kept buying and geting all these awesome new books, that I obviously had to read right now.  My poor little books already on the shelf were quite neglected!  I managed to read 34 books, though, which I guess isn't too too bad...

Dusty Volumes Reading Challenge

I didn't really have an exact target for this one...  I read 7 'classics', so I think I did pretty good.  :)

WHO WILL PLAY MEHRUNISSA - CHITRANGDA, VIDYA OR KATRINA?

Who Will Play Mehrunissa - Chitrangda, Vidya or Katrina?

She is Sudhir Mishra's muse. But for the first time, Chitrangda Singh may not be a part of the director's ambitious film Mehrunissa. Mumbai Mirror has learnt that the film's producers - UTV Motion Pictures - are not as keen as Mishra to have Chitrangda in the lead role. In fact, reports state that UTV is looking for an A-list actress instead. According to a source close to the developments, the production house, who had previously considered Vidya Balan, has now set its sights on Katrina Kaif.

Reportedly, the production house plans on approaching Katrina for a detailed narration of the script. The source explained, "UTV and Nikhil Advani are co-producing Mehrunissa. While Nikhil has maintained a noncommittal stance as far as casting goes, UTV are keen on getting Katrina to essay the lead role. Considering that the film is about a girl who drives a wedge in the 50-year old friendship between two friends essayed by Big B and Rishi Kapoor, the production house feels that the youth market can only be won over by an actress like Katrina."

Interestingly though neither Big B nor Rishi will actually share screen space with the actress, since the story is told through flashbacks of when they were young (played by newcomers) and courting the beautiful, unattainable girl.

Previously, it was Vidya, who was offered the role of this unattainable girl. "Vidya was considered due to her connection with the film's producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, but she was not so excited about the script," added our source.

While Advani was unaware about the decision to cast Katrina, UTV chose not to respond. As for Mishra, he maintained that he has never met the actress. Katrina remained unavailable for comment.

ACTING DEBUT BY THE SON OF ABBAS BURMAWALLA IN PLAYERS

Acting Debut by the Son of Abbas Burmawalla in Players

This year is fast becoming the perfect launch year for filmmakers’ offspring. Apart from David Dhawan’s son Varun and Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia, Mustafa Burmawalla, Abbas’s (of Abbas-Mustan fame) son will also make his silver screen debut in his father’s upcoming directorial venture Players.

The 24-year-old Mustafa will be seen in an interesting cameo opposite Sonam Kapoor in the upcoming film. The sequence was shot in Russia.

Explaining his role in the film, Mustafa told Mumbai Mirror, “I enjoyed doing my bit in my dad’s film. But my goal is to become a director. I love filmmaking. In fact, I have done a course in New York Film Academy.”

“It is short scene with Sonam where she tries to seduce me so that she can reach her destination. In the end, she gets what she wanted but I end up getting nothing,” Mustafa added.

The short cameo did not deter Mustafa from getting some hands-on experience in filmmaking either. “I assisted my father during Players. It was a rather good learning experience,” said Mustafa. And like his father, Mustafa too, likes thrillers. “I prefer horror thrillers and dark comedy,” added the 24-year-old.

On a lighter note, when asked about his dressing habits, Mustafa revealed that unlike his father and his uncle, he never wears all-white ensembles. “I do wear a white shirt at times. But never all white,” laughed the actor.

Taking this opportunity, we slipped in a naughty question as well. When asked to name one heroine who he thinks will look sexier than Bipasha in a red bikini, pat came the reply, “Jacqueline Fernandez would look really hot.”

SUNNY DEOL AND ANIL SHARMA TO COOPERATE ONCE MORE

Sunny Deol and Anil Sharma To Cooperate Once More

Sunny Deol and Anil Sharma created the character of Tara Singh and made him famous in 2001. A decade later, the director and actor have decided to join hands again. This time too, Sunny would play a Sikh in the film titled Singh Saheb The Great.

Anil Sharma, who has also announced another film, Masters with the three Deols – Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby, has decided to make Singh Saheb… before starting with the next project. Mumbai Mirror has learnt that Dharmendra and Bobby will also be a part of this new film.

When contacted, Anil Sharma said, “Sunny will play an action hero in Singh Saheb The Great. He will be playing the role of a collector. The film is based in eastern UP and Punjab. It will address social issues.”

Shaktimaan Talwar, who wrote Gadar, will write the story and the screenplay of Singh Saheb… as well.
