Cover Crazy (#3)

Cover Crazy is a meme held (normally) on Mondays, and is hosted by Tawni at The Book Worms.  The whole point is to admire a cover you love, focusing why it caught your attention and what you like most about it.

Ok, this week I'm mixing it up a little.  I've decided to give you two versions of one book, and then compare the covers and decide which I like best.  So...

Immortal Beloved
Series: Immortal Beloved, Book One
By: Cate Tiernan

Hardcover 7th September 2010

Hardcover 6th January 2011

Synopsis From Goodreads:
New name, new town, new life. Nastasya has done it too often to count. And there's no end in sight. Nothing ever really ends ...when you're immortal. But now, after centuries of feeding from the lives of the innocents around her, of living with little care for others, Nastasya is ready to turn towards the light.
'After some of the events I've witnessed I felt like I was a shell with nothing alive left in me. I hadn't been going around killing people, but people were hurt -- the memories just kept trickling in like rivulets of fresh acid dripping into my brain until I wanted to scream. It was in my blood, I knew. A darkness. The darkness. I had inherited it, along with my immortality and my black eyes.'
Captivating, intense and with an incredible and original voice, EVERLASTING LIFE is a haunting story of friendship, love and secrets, tragedy and loss. Sometimes life is eternal...

Ok, my favourite is the newer hardcover.  It's beautiful: the red leaves bright against the dark greys, blacks and white.  The flowers opening, little white buds with beautiful blood red peeking through.  But then I start to wonder why the white barbs?  Also, the colour seems to drain out towards the bottom of the cover: why?  What does the forest symbolise?  And the soft glow of light at the end?  Will out heroine have to go through a hard time to find her light?  Is she going to have a struggle ahead of her?  Then there's the "Discover The Secret To Everlasting Life".  What does that mean?!  Through magic, vampirism, happiness?  So many questions from the one cover.  And it's so, so beautiful.  I could just buy it to sit on my bookshelf so I could just stare at it.  I want to just stare at it.  But that's just me: what do you think of it?

As for the older version, the first thing I think of is fire.  The hot reds, oranges and purples instictively bring flames up in my head.  I love the light on the girl's face, and the colours are absolutely gorgeous.  And the little circle round the title is beautiful, intricate.  And seeing that with the flames for some reason makes me think of magic, maybe fairies.  It's the circle that does it: it's looks so delicate, full of flowers and little swirls.  I prefer the font for the title on this one: it's really pretty.  But still, fire.  Why fire?  Is there going to be passion?  Magic?  Danger?  It's a gorgeous cover, and I love the colours, but it's not as appealing.

So, my fave is the new cover: it's simple but makes me have a mad tumble of thoughts.

Which do you prefer?
And which Cover are you Crazy over?

Cover Crazy (#2)

Ok, this week I'm Crazy about this Cover.  There are so many I'm Crazy over, but, too many covers, so little time.  So this is the Cover I'm Crazy for...

Halo
Series: Halo, Book One
By: Alexandra Adornetto

Published: Paperback: 20th January 2011
Hardcover: 31st August 2010

Synopsis From Goodreads:
Nothing much happens in the sleepy town of Venus Cove. But everything changes when three angels are sent from Heaven to protect the town against the gathering forces of darkness: Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, a teenage girl who is the least experienced of the trio. They work hard to conceal their true identity and, most of all, their wings.
But the mission is threatened when the youngest angel, Bethany, is sent to high school and falls in love with the handsome school captain, Xavier Woods. Will she defy the laws of Heaven by loving him? Things come to a head when the angels realize they are not the only supernatural power in Venus Cove. There′s a new kid in town and he′s charming, seductive and deadly. Worst of all, he′s after Beth.

The minute I saw this cover, I fell in love.  The gorgeous golden-orange light spilling between the two love-birds on the front.  The soft glow showing through the beautiful wings.  The little lock of hair hanging down from the guy's face.  The beautiful, swirly font of the title and the bold, simple font of Alexandra's name.
As I stared at it, I noticed the way everything darkens as it gets towards the bottom.  Does that symbolize darkness and evil lurking underneath the beauty and light?  And then there's: 'She was sent to save him... But can she save herself?'  Save who?  And from what?
But mostly when I look at this cover, I feel... Love.  Happiness.  Light.  Beauty.  Sure, there's obviously darkness squatting amongst the goodness, but it's hiding at the moment.
And, sure enough, most of the book was light, happy, beauty and full of love.  The writing in particular was amazing.  To read my full review, click: here.

Back to covers, what does this one make you feel?  And what cover are you crazy about?

Cover Crazy (#1)

Cover Crazy is a meme held (normally) on Mondays, and is hosted by Tawni at The Book Worms.  The whole point is to admire a cover you love, focusing why it caught your attention and what you like most about it.

Mine is late this week, but there are too many covers!  Has anyone else noticed that?  Anyway, the Cover I'm Crazy about this week is...

The Highgate Vampire
The Highgate Vampire
By: Asa Bailey
Published: 3rd November 2011

Synopsis From Goodreads:
Kathy is an innocent, an outsider who longs to belong somewhere. Anywhere. Dreams of her half-sister Amber and of the centuries old Highgate Vampire are taking her to places she doesn't want to go. Kathy can't stop the sequence of events. If her nightmares and reality collide, the Highgate Vampire will come to take her soul...

Well, it's safe to say I love this cover.  I love the way the red stands out against all the blacks, whites and grays; the bright bold letters, and the font are really effective.  And the hair looks brilliant as well, adding texture and a little mayhem to the cover.  As I look at the hair, it makes me think: what's this meant to signify?  Is it hinting at a dark, tangled storyline?  Looking back at the title, and the red used, I wonder: Does the colour mean there's bloodshed or danger?  And who is 'the legend' mentioned - are they bad?  Are they good?
But what really caught my attention is the look in the girl's eyes.  She looks scared, or maybe startled.  Perhaps at said legend?  Or is it because of something else?
So:  Why is she scared?  What does the messy hair mean?  Why blood red, almost faded letters?  Why stick to blacks and whites?  More importantly: who is the legend?
And all of this is just from looking at the cover.  A complete mayhem-filled flood of questions, almost on the verge of rambling.  But all I know is that I really, really, really want to read this book!

Ok.  Babbling over now.

Back on topic.  What do you guys make of this book, or what cover are you crazy about?

(And I think that my post was a little iffy the other day, and half of it didn't show up...  Sorry if that's right!)
